Pull a Lucky Fish Best Rod: Upgrade Order

Which Pull a Lucky Fish rod to buy next, the reported rod prices and luck values, and how to tell training apart from a rod cap.

The short answer

Ice Rod is the rod most sources agree on. It is reported at 50M cash for 2.5× luck, and independent recorded sessions treat it as the purchase you save toward. Before it, the Leaf Rod at $10,000 is the first real upgrade, and the Crow Rod is a mid step at a reported 1.7× luck.

What no source provides is a complete, current rod table with prices and effects. Anyone publishing a ranked list of every rod is either working from a version you may not be on or filling gaps. This page gives you the reported values and a decision rule instead of a fake ranking.

Reported rod values

Rod values reported in recorded gameplay. Not a complete shop list.
RodReported costReported luckWhat the session shows
Leaf Rod$10,000 cashNot stated in the sessionLowest useful step. Recorded as an early shop purchase in a first-session run.
Crow RodNot capturedReported 1.7× luckMid step. The player bought it specifically to raise luck, and the 1.7× value is what the session reports.
Ice Rod50M cashReported 2.5× luckThe most consistently reported rod across independent sessions, and the one most often named as the next target.
Trident RodNot capturedNot stated in the sessionBought as “the most expensive rod” in a paid-progression run. Do not treat it as a fixed end-game item.

Treat every row as a dated observation. Two of the four rods were only partly captured, which is why the cost or luck column says so rather than guessing a number. Shop prices have changed between recorded sessions, so the price you see in the Rod Shop is the one that matters.

How to decide your next rod

Use the bottleneck you actually have, not the rod at the top of someone’s list.

  1. Make a test cast and look for the rod-cap warning. If the game says your power is above the rod’s cap, the rod is limiting you and more training will not help. That is your signal to buy a rod.
  2. If there is no warning, your reach is still improvable. Weight and Throw Power training can extend your cast, which is usually cheaper than a rod. See the training guide.
  3. Check whether a different float solves it instead. A float can change cast speed, mutation chance or Gem chance without a rod purchase. Compare the float effects before spending rod-level cash.
  4. Then check the price against your income. Time to afford = (price − balance) ÷ income per second. The rod planner and the money guide run that arithmetic with your own numbers.

What luck does and does not do

Luck is reported as a multiplier on your rolls. The Ice Rod’s 2.5× and the Crow Rod’s 1.7× are the two values recorded on screen. What those multipliers do not tell you is your chance of a specific fish, because no source publishes per-fish drop rates.

So do not plan around luck as a guarantee. A 2.5× luck rod improves your rolls; it does not promise a secret fish on the next cast. If your goal is a particular rarity, the honest answer is that more casts with better luck is the only route anyone has documented.

Rods and weights are different purchases

Weights are bought from the Weight Shop separately from rods, and they raise throw power. Recorded sessions show a progression that includes gym, icy, toxic and Medusa dumbbells, with the Medusa dumbbell shown at a listed 1,600 Robux in one run. Weight prices reach into the billions of cash at the top end.

The practical split: weights raise your power, rods raise your cap and luck. If the rod-cap warning is showing, a weight will not help. If it is not showing, a weight usually will.

Rod questions

What is the best rod in Pull a Lucky Fish?

There is no verified single best rod. The Ice Rod is the most consistently reported target at a reported 50M cash and 2.5x luck, and recorded sessions treat it as the next major purchase. Beyond that, the shop changes and no complete published rod table exists.

How much does the Ice Rod cost?

A reported 50M cash, taken from recorded gameplay. Shop prices change between versions, so confirm the price in your own Rod Shop before saving toward it.

Should I buy a rod or upgrade my weight first?

Read the rod-cap warning. If the game tells you your power is above the rod's cap, more weight and training cannot convert into distance and the rod is the bottleneck. If no warning appears, weight and training can still extend your reach.

Does luck guarantee a rarer fish?

No. Luck is reported as a multiplier on your rolls, not a guarantee. Recorded sessions report values like 1.7x and 2.5x, and none of them establish a specific rare-fish probability.

Can you buy a rod with Robux instead of cash?

The sessions we reviewed buy rods with cash from island income. Some shop and weight items are also shown with Robux prices, but we have not verified which rods can be bought directly.
