Pull a Lucky Fish Rod Planner: When to Upgrade

Enter your current rod, your income and your target, and this tells you whether a rod is even the right purchase — plus how long the saving takes.

Check the cap warning first

This is the one observation that decides the answer, and it takes one cast: watch for a message saying your power exceeds the rod's cap. Until you know, any spending plan is a guess.

Reported rod values and the gaps

Every row is a dated observation from recorded gameplay, not a current shop listing. Two rows are deliberately incomplete rather than guessed.

For the full upgrade reasoning, including why a rod and a weight solve different problems, read the best rod guide. If your casts are falling short and you are not sure why, the cast diagnostic narrows it to one of three causes.

Common questions

Rod questions

Should I buy a rod or upgrade my weight first?

Check for the rod-cap warning. If the game says your power is above the rod's cap, that power is being discarded and only a rod helps. If there is no warning, weights and training are still improving your cast and they cost far less.

How long does it take to afford the Ice Rod?

Divide what is left to pay by your island income per second. At 100,000 per second, a 50M rod from zero takes 500 seconds, or about eight minutes twenty. Enter your own numbers in the planner above, because your income depends on what you have placed.

Does luck tell me how much income a rod adds?

No. Luck is a multiplier on your rolls, not on your island income. A higher-luck rod can help you catch better fish, but the income gain depends on what you actually catch and place, so it cannot be predicted from the luck value alone.

Why is there no complete rod table?

Because no source publishes one. Two of the four rods named in recorded gameplay had their cost or effect only partially captured, and shop prices change between versions. Rather than invent a table, this page reports the values we have and labels the gaps.

Is the Ice Rod still the best rod?

We do not claim a single best rod. The Ice Rod is the most consistently reported target at 50M and 2.5x luck, but later rods exist that sessions name without capturing their stats. Compare the price and effect in your own Rod Shop against your current bottleneck.
