Pull a Lucky Fish Mutations: Multipliers, Machine & Alchemy

Mutation multipliers at a glance

Mutations change a fish’s appearance and can raise its earnings and sale value. The July 25 Trading Update guides list the six multipliers below. Molten is the highest in that six-entry table; that is a dated comparison, not a claim that the table covers every later update.

August player notes add Bubblegum (0.5% chance, 5× multiplier) and dispute Diamond/Molten weather acquisition. The 5× value comes from the author’s mutation table, read September 16. The table above preserves July values, not a promise that every older method still applies.

How to unlock and use the Mutation Machine

Pro Game Guides places the machine on the left side of the lobby after four rebirths. The July guides describe applying mutations directly. The later August guide instead describes extraction into a jar:

1. Insert a donor fish.
2. Choose its mutation; pay 180 Gems.
3. Wait up to 15 minutes.
4. Collect the jar and demutated donor.
5. Apply the jar at your base.

Match the instructions to the interface you see: an extraction screen needs a donor mutation. It is different from the older guides’ description of directly choosing a new mutation.

What does the Alchemy Table do?

August 15 notes: the village’s 150 qn Functional Decoration Crate can yield an Alchemy Table. Sacrifice a fish with 3+ mutations for a random jar; the fish is consumed.

Our recommendation: use a spare fish, not your island’s best earner. A random jar is not a promise of the mutation you want. Compare the earnings you would give up with the donor-and-Gems route before choosing.

Can weather mutate fish already on my island?

Yes, according to both July guides: placed fish and new catches can receive weather mutations. Gold, Diamond and Molten are also reported as natural catch rolls in those guides. This makes a placed collection useful during an event, rather than requiring you to recatch every fish.

The weather events guide lists every reported event and the mutation each one applies, including why Rainbow is the window worth planning around.

August notes: random weather costs 30 Gems / 3 minutes; machine weather lasts 10 minutes. Gem/automatic weather can overwrite machine weather.

Which mutation is the best one to get?

Molten at 4× is the highest value in the reported table, and it is also the rarest route. That trade-off is the whole decision. Use this order:

1. Molten if you can get it — highest multiplier in the July table, from Rainbow weather or the machine.
2. Bloody (3×) if Rainbow is not running. Bloodmoon gives it and the machine can apply it, so it is the best multiplier you can target deliberately.
3. Cat (2.5×) as the practical mid-game target, because Cat weather is a single-purpose event.
4. Diamond or Frozen (2×) early, before better events are available to you.
5. Gold (1.5×) is the floor. Better than no mutation, but not worth spending Gems to chase.

Apply the strongest mutation you can get to your highest-income placed fish, not to your rarest-looking one. The multiplier works on that fish’s own number, so a big multiplier on a weak earner is still a weak earner.

Is there a Bubblegum mutation?

August player notes record a Bubblegum mutation at a reported 5× multiplier with a 0.5% chance, which would place it above Molten’s 4×. It is not in the July six-entry table, so it either arrived after that update or the note describes something else.

We publish it as a dated community claim rather than a confirmed entry, because a single source with a specific percentage is exactly the kind of claim that needs a second one. If Bubblegum appears in the mutation list on your own build, treat it as the new top target. If it does not, the claim does not apply to your version.

Can mutations stack?

Pro Game Guides says a fish can carry multiple mutations. That does not establish a formula for combining their labels. Do not automatically calculate Gold plus Molten as 1.5 × 4 = 6×. For a practical income comparison, use the final money-per-second label of the fish.

Example: a hypothetical base rate of 100/s with one 4× modifier would be 400/s. If the displayed rate already reads 400/s, adding the same bonus again is double-counting.

Should I buy x2 Mutation Luck?

A pass name alone cannot tell you its effect on a specific mutation, machine extraction or weather. Compare the current purchase description with the gamepass reference. Do not read “2×” as a guaranteed second mutation or a known drop probability.
